Synthetic or Conventional Oil
09/27/06 at 11:02:03

Does anyone run a synthetic like Royal Purple?
Do you prefer conventional oil?

I have used Valvoline in all my vehicles since I was 16.
I use the Valvoline VR-1 racing oil in the Super Nova.

I saw on Horse Power TV the other day where they exchange all the oil and gear lube on a 98 Camaro with all Royal Purple products; Engine Oil, Trans fluid, gear oil, coolant, etc.
The gain was about 10-12 hp.
Which I thought was great, but given the extra cost- is it worth it?

I think it is worth it for sure. Always break the engine in with a non-detergent regular oil first though. With newer car engines you don't even have to do that, you can just run synthetic all the time.

Also stands up to temperature extremes better.

i put in synthetic in the race car and it will run 3 or 4 faster . now we are putting synthetic motor oil in the transmissions . i just built a transmission and put 5w-20 mobil 1 symthetic motor oil in it . thay say it will shift harder and last longer .
