When does a street car become a race car?
08/12/06 at 15:43:36

Where is the line drawn? What makes a street car a street car and a race car a race car?

Is there more than just two? (Race and Street)

What a can of worms you are opening.

Anything that a person is willing to drive on the street, with all the hassles that go with it, is a street car. anything from an outhouse to a top fuel dragster.

ps, Hope outhouse isnt too offensive for anyone.

That's close to how I feel.

Mine is far from a real street car. But I will drive it every once in a while.

Still has an alternator and it CAN be driven on the street. Altough not near as comfortable as it could be. =)

A real street car IMO  would still have street tires and be able to be driven to lawton and back. Mine can't do that at all.

So I like your answer if you drive it on the street it is KIND of a street car.

I hope it does get some good conversation on this topic! But I don't mean it as a topic for people to get offended in any way. I can see this topic can be different for everyone. That's what I like about it.

I hope everyone responds to this thread. You cou can have all of the illegal things you want on your car if you are willing to pay the price if you get caught. For me, I dont like loud cars. Being loud des not make it a hotrod. You cant quiet down alot of hp, that is just a fact, but to try and make a mild car car loud with 1 or 2 chamber flowmasters or other race type mufflers or even a boom boom sterio is just a nuscance.  The S-10 is the first vehicle I have ever ran with open exhaust. I would have mufflers on it, no matter how much et it killed. Chris, install spell checker on here, my spelling is terrible.

We need spell checker for me also. I may do that.   Grin

I hate the slow cars that are way too loud myself.

I am going to race mine with an exhaust system. although I haven't decided what muffler to run yet.

i would have to say a street car would be one that has working lights and can be driven on the street without having to do any prep work (i.e. changing the tires, puting race gas in her, etc.). another thing i think would consider it a street car would be pulling up to get pump gas (i just think that is what makes a street car impressive).  a race car would be one that it's sole intention is to race at fascility made for racing (i.e. a cirle track car is made to race at a circle track). just my opinion on the difference.

My definition of a street car is one that can run on pump gas without needing to tune for it, two, runs a real DOT approved tire. I have MT streets on the back of mine and have to take it home when a cloud comes over....already did two NASCAResq 360s here on base last fall when I had brought it into work....and it snowed!!!!!!!!....not fun....and that was with a 305 in it...now I'm not talking about putting McCrearys on the back but just something with a little more tread.  Loud exhaust doesn't bother me as long as its not 2" diameter glass-packs...I'd rather listen to exhaust than one of those d@mn booming stereos....

Cut and paste into word before posting....that's what I do....

What most of the cars we are calling street cars are what I refer to (heard from and friend) as outlaw cars in other words if you had to pass a safety inspection they would laugh at you but if you are in a place like Jimmy is you might as well sell it or quite wasting money on tags as they will NEVER pass those inspections.
