Title: Turbo 400 experts in here.

Well I wanna put a reverse manual valve body/transbrake in the 400. Ive looked at some "how to" links. Looked pretty simple until i saw you had to drill and grind some things. So does anyone here have any experience in doing this?

I don't have a th400 in mine, but I have a 700r4 with a reverse manuel valve body in it. It was no big deal to put in. No cutting or grinding. A freind of mine installed his without pulling the tranny out.

On a Turbo 400 you can put in a reverse valve body without any real modifications either. But if you are putting in a trans brake you have to almost completely take it apart to drill a few holes in the drum.

which brake drum?

just kidding, i know nothing 'bout a chevy trans but i've got some experience with a vw transaxleamission ;)

last year i installed cutting brake system. the regular brakes are plumbed thru the cutting brake housing and work normally until you pull the lever.

now back to our regularly scheduled programming....... :D

ok. So with a stock th400 do you still have to manually shift it or does it shift on its on? Or do you have to get the manual vavle body for that? Sorry Im automatic illiterate  ;D

Stock turbo 400 actually shifts on its own and it's pattern is   P R N D 2 1

Most racing turbo 400's have a manual reverse valve body. Pattern is    P R N 1 2 3

On the racing valve body you have to make all the shifts yourself and you are pulling gears away from N

If you want a good shifting 400, hook up the kick down linkage, and vacume modulator. Get a Transgo 3 in 1 shift kit, Set it up in #2 mode, I think #3 is full manual. Then get a B&M governor reprogramer kit, has springs and weights to change the shift anywhere you want it while in drive. You can be in drive, it will shift like normal for everyday driving, but stomp it, it will kick down and shift at whatever rpm you want it to. I ran 950's in my Malibu that way. it shifted auto amtically at 7100rpm. With the governer kit start with the middle springs and weights, if you go too light on everything it ont shift at all, you will think the trans is broke. Works like a champ when you get it set up.
