After completing the fuel pumps and filters, I ran the main lines up to the engine compartment.

Time to mount the Nitrous plate and plumb the system. ;)

I purchased some 2.5" carb studs to allow for the increased thickness of the plate.

Always a good idea to put a rag in the intake while working with the carb off. 8-)

Here you can see the exteded length of the carb studs.

New longer studs installed.

Then the gasket and the plate.....
|
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 20:31:57
Then the carb.

I had to modify the throttle cable bracket slightly to allow clearance for the fuel solenoid.
|
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 20:33:47
In this pic, you can see the angle that I had to cut.
|
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 20:34:52
Next, mount the solenoids and other hardware, hook up all vaccum lines, etc.

Next, I had to connect the regulator to the carb.
I had to order a few fittings to make the connections. |
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 20:38:39
Of course, use teflon tape on all NPT fittings.
|
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 20:41:01
Because my carb is a single feed- the common fitting is a 'banjo' type fitting.
But those don't connect to a AN line. So I found out the thread size was 9/16" x 24 thread. And ordered the adapter to a -6AN line. |
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 20:41:43
Next, I mocked up where I wanted the lines to run.
|
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 20:42:16
Then, just make all the connections. ;)

Now, all I need to do is wire up the fuel pumps.
|
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 20:46:15
I started with a relay harness that I had from installing my keyless entry and remote start on my truck. I had to modify the wires and pins to work correctly.
|
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 20:47:00

Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 20:48:18
With the battery removed, I drilled a hole in the trunk floor and ran my 2 wires to the fuel pumps and secured a good ground.
|
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 20:48:51
Now it's time to modify the dash for my switches.
|
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 20:49:24
I'm going to use the area where the radio used to be.
|
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 20:50:29
I used my dremel tool, to cut out a square.
|
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 20:51:02
Next, I made a template out of cardboard.
|
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 20:52:42
Then, I transferred my template to the aluminum and made the cuts.
Next, I clamped the aluminum between two 1x4's and made a 80* bend. |
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 20:53:14
Aluminum after the cuts and bend.
|
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 20:53:56
With the aluminum in place, I used some rivets to secure it to the panel.

Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 20:55:20
Then, I cut a piece for where the vent/heater controls were (this car didn't have a/c)
|
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 20:57:18
Next, I drilled 3 holes for my switches- fan, fuel 1, & fuel 2.
The blank space to the right is for my Nitrous arm switch, which I haven't purchased yet. |
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 20:58:46
As I'm sure Monte knows, you have to drop the column in this car to get enough room to remove or install the gauge cluster.
|
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 20:59:16
Next, I wired up all my switches.
|

Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 21:00:25
Then, just reconnect the battery and install the fuses.
|
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 21:01:39
New, smaller battery box installed.
and that finishes off the fuel system. ;D Jared |
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Chris Smith on 10/09/06 at 21:04:41
Great detailed post Jared!!!
You need to put a video of your car driving so we can hear it. It's one of the best sounding cars I have heard. Chris |
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/09/06 at 21:08:14
Thanks Chris! :D
When I started it up last night, my neighbor came over and said, 'I could hear your car in side my house, it made the walls shake!' All I could say was 'Thanks.' 8-) Jared |
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by robzridez on 10/10/06 at 11:20:09
looks good Jared but I thought I would offer a suggestion to you. Would it be possible to remove the rivets and use nuts and bolts or screws? I think a nice set of allen heads would look better than rivets?
|
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/10/06 at 12:21:16
That's a good idea, I may do that sometime in the future.
I painted them black, so you can't really see them. In the pics above, they are still silver. But in the car, it's pretty dark anyway and you can barely notice them at all. plus, aluminum rivets are lighter, so it's gotta be faster! hehe. Jared |
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by robzridez on 10/10/06 at 16:01:03
you shouldnt have said that no people will be taking the bolts out of their cars and putting rivets in instead. ;D
|
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/10/06 at 16:19:11
Didn't you tell me that's how you offset the weight of those power windows-
By holding your car together w/ aluminum rivets? lol j/k Jared |
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by 84silverado on 10/13/06 at 21:53:35
looking good cant wait to get a lil nitrous myself, are you going to have to mess with the different jets and stuff like that or what shot are you planning on running.
|
Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/14/06 at 19:21:21
Planning on a 125 or 150 shot on this motor. ;)

Title: Re: Project Super Nova Fuel system Complete! Post by Jared Black on 10/16/06 at 07:25:50
That's a good philosophy, I think the same way-
'Do it right the first time, and you won't have to do it again.' Jared |
