At what point or hp do you go with an aftermarket driveshaft?
Is aluminum the best? Jared |

i have a aluminum drive shaft in my car . you can tell the weight difference it was about 9 pounds lighter. but you better have alot of room . the aluminum drive shaft is 4 inches around.

Floyd, did you have yours custom made?
If so, who made it for you? Thanks, JB |

IF YOU PUT DOWN OVER 400HP AND CAN STICK IT A NEW DRIVESHAFT IS IN ORDER I HAVE A STEEL 3.5 IN DIAMETER THAT A LOCAL DRIVESHAFT COMPANY MADE UP WITH 1330 JOINTS COST WAS 266.00 YOU'LL FIND ALUMINUM SHAFTS ARE QUITE A BIT MORE EXPENSIVE BUT ARE ALOT LIGHTER

Just convert it to a rear engine car and you dont have to worry about it. BTW thanks for the reminder I need to look in to driveshafts to mine is pretty worn (darn drive shaft loops)

That is a great deal!
Even if you didn't really need it, for 200 bucks it would be worth it. Thanks for the info- JB |

Jared, check with Blumenthal's driveline shop in OKC. They custom make driveshafts also. They may be more expensive than Floyd's place but wouldn't hurt to check. I have had them shorten and balance a few driveshafts. If you need the number holler back. Monte

You'll probably need one before I do, but when you're ready let me know.
Since I live close, I can go talk to those guys and see if they'll make us a deal. |

Will be a bit till I need mine. I had been looking at the strange ones. Not sure what to get yet. I was thinking steel since I am going to run 16 inch slicks and my car is kind of heavy. But would love to run aluminum.

Drive Train Specialties is a good place to go, they built alu. one for the S-10, but they are bigger in diameter, it rubbed on everthing, took it back out and put steel one back in it. They come ballanced, u-joints, asembled ready to run, great deal.

Are you running a drive shaft loop on the truck?
|
Title: Re: Aftermarket Driveshaft Post by 84silverado on 08/18/06 at 15:08:57

Title: Re: Aftermarket Driveshaft Post by Chris Smith on 08/18/06 at 15:39:26
Install it well, when I snapped my driveshaft it took out both loops.
My new ones are welded to the frame and not bolted to the floorboard. Chris |
Title: Re: Aftermarket Driveshaft Post by Jared Black on 09/27/06 at 10:34:27
Where is the optimal placement for two loops?
like 10-12" inches from each end? What do you recommend? JB |
Title: Re: Aftermarket Driveshaft Post by Chris Smith on 09/27/06 at 10:39:33
You just need a front hoop really. Within 12 inches of the front U-joint.
Chris Mine just has a rear since it is built into the frame. |
