Title: Rear Frame Setup
Post by Chris Smith on 08/02/06 at 10:02:04
Here are a few pictures from yesterday.

Bill said he would have the frame installed by friday and can start the cage.
He was thinking about a month before I can pick it up!   ;D
I am soooooo ready to have it back together. Going to the track the last couple weeks has gotten me inspired.

Also I took a seat in moody's rail and I think I might need one next.   ;)

Looks great Chris  ;)
Is that a Currie housing?

Title: Re: Rear Frame Setup
Post by Chris Smith on 08/02/06 at 10:39:20
Thanks Jared!

Currie housing and everything else is strange.

I am putting in a complete strange center in it also.

Now that he has the axles he can put the ends on it and he still has the backbrace to weld on to it.

Also adding an inspection plug on the back

The wheel tubs will also be going in.

Is it down to 895.00 yet? I wonder if the bank would finance it for four years?  Ha Ha  I figured it had sold already. I'm seriously thinkin' of selling my four door pickup. I really want a 55 post. Rob's got one so I'd better get one!!!  I'm stoked about Chris's car. That thing should be bulletproof when Bill gets thru with it. I'm sure Chris will put to the test!!  Monte

Title: Re: Rear Frame Setup
Post by Chris Smith on 08/07/06 at 20:25:16
Thanks Monte!

So am I. Just ready to get it back. I just want it at least strong and safe enough I can change out motor's or rear ends and not worry about needing to change everything.

Back when I built it I didn't care much about stuff that didn't make it go fast. Now I would rather have it strong and safe. Then worry about building horsepower.

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP YOU HAVE GIVEN ME OVER THE YEARS!

It's been way to long since I have been into this. The only reason I got back into it was that night getting yours ready for the cruise!

I was also. He said it would have a little bondo on the seam itself and that should be it. He really worked the metal.

I won't post the before pic, but it was WAVY.

He got a little sidetracked since I have the body guy there straightening the quarters. Once that is done he will get back to rocking on it. He really straightened it out with a torch, hammer and dolly and almost no filler except for the actual seam.

looks good but have you thought of getting rid of those park light on the rear quarter panel? now would be a good time to do it and I think it would give it a smoother look. If it were me I'd shave the front and rear for sure.I bet it wouldnt cost hardly anything extra

I'm planning on shaving the marker lights on project super-nova.
mainly because I don't wanna have to run new wire for them.  ;D
besides, it's less wind resistance.

thats a good idea Jared but you'll probably need to add power windows I know they weigh .4 lbs more but they'll take 5 tenths off your time

Title: Re: Rear Frame Setup
Post by robzridez on 08/17/06 at 10:49:44
I was suggestion the chassis guy weld them up I was hoping Chris would know to let the paint and body guy weld them up so it wouldnt do that warpage. And I like the side lights on your car monte but I think Chris's would look better with out them. mainly the back ones

Title: Re: Rear Frame Setup
Post by Jared Black on 08/17/06 at 13:00:24
I think that side marker lights and other things make the car look like a 'sleeper'.
But you can't hide 30" of rubber-  ;D

Title: Re: Rear Frame Setup

32" inches of rubber  ;D

We are going to be fitting the tunnel soon and I ordered my new shifter as well so we can make the platform it sits on.

Bodywork is almost done and after a good shop cleaning the floor and rear braces should start going in.

The bodywork set it behind a couple weeks but I think it really needed it.

What shifter did you order? Cheetah? Lightning Stick?
What kind is adaptable for a turbo 400 and a glide?
Do you just change the plate?

B&M Pro Ratchet

Yours will work for it all. You just need a different plate.

Title: Re: Rear Frame Setup
Post by robzridez on 08/30/06 at 23:05:33
actually I've only had 1 expereince with a hurst shifter and thats was Jareds. Did it take 3hrs to get those so called quick release pins out? I remember cutting 1 of them up before finally getting it out. On the good side we honed out the holes (got all the extra paint that hurst left in it) about put some better quick releases and I believe its working good now isn't it?

Title: Re: Rear Frame Setup
Post by Jared Black on 08/31/06 at 08:11:28
Yeah, it works great!
And it did take at least 3 hrs, a cut-off tool, and a mini sledge and a screwdriver to drive the rear pin out.
Once we finally got it out, there was a build up of that paint-coating inside the pivot joint.
I think it was just in a really bad bind between the bracket and the shifter.
Thanks again for all the help and the new pins Rob-

Jared

I know I was ready to throw it in the trash, But I think it even ended up being mounted better afterwards to didnt it? I never understood them suppling screws to mount that with. I anyone buys a shift and it comes wth screws the 1st thing you should do is throw them away and get some nuts, bolts and washers to install it with sooner or later the screws will pull out.

I like what I see!!  Just the one driveshaft loop? Have you decided on the nitrous bottle location? Are you going to have mounts for both seats? If so is there a way to make the passenger seat easily removed and still legal?

It's a street car, it has to have two seats! ;D

Not sure on the bottles yet.

Sweet! No problem- I'll let you know as soon as they arrive.
Also, what gauge wire should I use for the pumps?
and what fuse/relay rating?  30 amp?
thx

JB

Title: Re: Rear Frame Setup
Post by Chris Smith on 09/08/06 at 08:25:53
10 or 12 for the pump side of the relay. 14 gauge for the relay side.

30 amp relay would be great. One per pump.

We should have tires bolted on monday or tuesday as well as the front floor board and tunnel.

He was saying the same thing, it should come together fast now that the rear setup is done. (Rear suspension, Fuel cell and battery mounts)

The rear brakes are not mounted so that will move the tires out 1/4 inch or so.

Also there is no weight on the tires right now. It will sit lower when we have it setup.

of course  =)

The seats are mounted now. Also the driveshaft tunnel is fabricated. And the shifter mount/plate

Still a ways to go before it gets back to altus.

I got my front suspension parts all together now. Just have to run to Smith's tomorrow and order the steering parts.

Once I get it back I can start the switchover.

The tunnel is in the car now, seats mounted, and shifter brackets and mounting pad are all done.
Moody's son had his last motorcycle race friday so hopefully it will be home soon so I can start getting it ready to be painted.

You are funny!!!    ;D

I just post them for the fun of it. Not bragging or anything else. If you want to look at my pics look, if not don't. hehe

I am not into keeping everything a secret like the old days. I don't care if everyone knows what I am running anymore. I am just too old to care.   ;D

Man, I am sooo ready to have it done and painted!!!!

Going to be hard to make my April 30th deadline unless the painter is VERY fast.

You set up a date for your cage install yet?

Title: Re: Rear Frame Setup
Post by Chris Smith on 11/27/06 at 16:10:36
I am ready to have it back also!!!

He has done a great job on it and it's exactly how I like it so far. I do need to come up with a way to hide the body panels on the sides of the trunk. I may have it covered with aluminum or maybe even some interior coverd parts. I want to keep it accesable so I can change my side marker bulbs.

I am soooo happy with it, but will need it back pretty soon if I have any hope at all of making the April 30th deadline.

I want to bring it home and actually put it all together. To see if i have to make any modifications. Then yank it all back apart and take it to the painter. As soon as I get a hard date to pick it up I will contact a couple painters and see who wants to paint it.   ;D

Thanks!

Chris

Looks great, Chris!

Do the bars go through the firewall, or just weld to both sides of it?
Is it an 8pt w/ a halo? or 10?

JB

Title: Re: Rear Frame Setup
Post by Chris Smith on 12/06/06 at 16:53:00
It's a 12 point.

The picture does make it look like it welds to it, but it goes straight through the firewall.

Thanks, I should have it back soon. he says he only has two more things to weld and then he has to finish up the tinwork.  =)

Did you take a S&W roll cage kit to him or did he bend that himself?

Title: Re: Rear Frame Setup
Post by Chris Smith on 12/07/06 at 11:54:36
I took an S and W 10 point kit and Wheel tubs to him.
He bent the others, like the snout bars. And he added the x brace.
I am just so happy to have the old s and w kit out of there that Jeff and I welded 11 years ago. It wasn't too bad but I wouldn't have wanted to crash it!
It is at least 10 times safer now. Hopefully I will never know though.

PS, I am still waiting for someone that is building a big block to buy my whole upper end Carb to cam, valvetrain and ignition. (Just supply a shortblock and go!)   ;D

Talk to you later,
Chris
