Title: Billet Aluminum Pulleys Post by Jared Black on 06/14/06 at 17:53:13
Finally I have the Nova at my new house in Edmond and can get back to work. Special thanks to Chris for helping me move and to Rob for the trailer. ;)
A few months back, I purchased a set of Billet Aluminum pulleys and could hardly wait to install them. The first step was to remove the old pulleys. |

The water pump was mostly strait forward but took a little more time than expected due the fact that I had to use two 5/16 nuts to 'jamb' together and then remove the stud.
Once I secured the flywheel from turning, I removed the crank pulley. The alternator pulley was giving me hell, of course, the impact was the last thing I tried. That worked in like 4 secs. |

Next, the fun part, Installation.
Alternator pulley was easy, just crank it down with the impact, and install the nose cone cover. |

The waterpump pulley requires special tapered head bolts.
I didn't want to use just regular hex-head bolts or re-use the old studs. These are extremely difficult to find. I spent nearly 2 hours driving around between Lowes, Home Depot, Pep Boys and other Hardware stores. Just FYI, --the exact specs are 5/16" x24 (fine thread) x 1" long. I could find plenty of 5/16" x18 (course) but no fine threaded or tapered head. Finally, at an Ace Hardware in Edmond I found some chrome bolts that were exactly what I needed. Although they were over $4.00 each, by this time, I didn't care. :D |

Next, I'll install a Billet alternator bracket to replace that stock piece.
